University of Virginia Newcomb Hall Renovations and Expansion

R. E. Lee & Son, Inc. was selected for the renovations and expansion of Newcomb Hall at the University of Virginia. This is a multi-phase project spanning more than three years and with a value of $21M. The final phase of this project is scheduled for substantial completion on November 30, 2012.

Construction Type

This project integrates nearly every discipline of commercial construction, including sitework, utilities, landscaping, concrete foundations/pier footings/walls/slabs, CMU, brick restoration, bluestone paver systems, structural steel, ornamental railings, carpenty, casework, waterproofing of the existing building envelope as well as new work, roofing systems, doors, frames, hardware, windows, storefront, all new finishes throughout (including acoustical plaster and wood flooring), restoration of historic elements (such as plaster), all new specialties, kitchen equipment, furnishings, plumbing, sprinkler, mechanical, electrical and fire alarm systems.

The extensive renovations to the facility were completed on time and within budget despite the many unforeseen conditions and additions to the project scope. The quality of the finished project is superior and no doubt will be appreciated by many generations of students, faculty and visitors.
